The Only Tryout Guide You Will Ever Need (For Hockey Players)
Tryouts are tough for most players.
But they don't have to be.
I have played 20 years of hockey and have tried out for many teams.
I want to share with you what I learned and what I stole from other great tryout players.
First Things To Understand
Tryouts are like an interview
Coaches want to see who is qualified to play on the team.
They want to see what value you bring
Your value has most to do with your ability and your character
Here is the checklist I breakdown in the full video:
1. Master Your Mental
Focus - meditation
Confidence - visualize, confidence programming, affirmations
2. Know your unique player Identity
Ideally, build it before tryouts
Know your skill set player your game
If not, just focus on playing your strengths
Know what scouts/coaches want
3. Be stable
Coaches don’t wanna see an angry outburst
They wanna see energy and passion
Know the difference
Be in control
4. Be vocal and alpha
But don't be fake
Lead
5. Set intentions and release them
Think of this as a prayer
Be clear the way you want to play, then let of attachment
6. Have a tryout day prep routine that can be altered easily
Mind
Body
Skill
7. Relax
You can’t control everything
Trust that what is meant to happen is meant to happen
